Who This Training Is For

Established practitioners, medical professionals & wellness coaches
You’ve completed training and sat with clients. Yet somewhere in the back of your mind, a question won’t go away:

"Am I actually prepared if something goes seriously wrong?"

1 in 16 psychedelic journeys lead to lingering bad outcomes, according to a recent study of over 3,000 participants.

Careful integration support can mitigate these effects, but it doesn’t prevent them.

There’s a moment every practitioner dreads: when a session starts to spiral out of control and safety checklists feel useless.

You hold space. You breathe with them. You do everything you were taught.

And still, something in you knows: This is the gap your training didn’t fill.

This training is for you if:

You’ve completed practitioner training and you’re working with clients, but safety still feels more like intuition than a repeatable clinical process

You understand set and setting, but no one has ever taught you how to read and prepare your client’s nervous system before the medicine takes effect.

You’ve experienced a serious adverse event, or you live in fear of one, and you’d rather learn to prevent it than scramble to manage it mid-session, in the dark, alone

You want the credentials and the tools that let you work with higher-caliber clients, charge accordingly, and build a practice that lasts

What separates a highly-recommended practitioner from one whose career ends after a single incident? Not talent… It’s their level of preparation.

If you are an established practitioner, medical professional, or wellness coach who wants to close the gap between what you know and what your clients’ nervous systems actually need, this is exactly where you should be.

This Training Is NOT For Everyone

If you don’t yet have an established practice or a professional background in health, wellness, or clinical care, this isn’t your starting point. We built this for practitioners, medical professionals, and wellness coaches who are already working with clients, whether or not they’ve incorporated psychedelics into their work yet.

This is not for you if:
You’re not a practicing clinician, therapist, coach, or healthcare professional. This training is designed for professionals with an active practice and clinical or coaching experience. No prior psychedelic training is required but a professional foundation in client care is essential.

If you’re earlier in your journey, start with our Microdosing Practitioner Certification.
You want a credential without changing how you practice.
The protocols, technology, and frameworks in this training are designed to be implemented, not filed away. If you’re not ready to integrate new tools into your existing client work, this isn’t the right fit.
You’re not currently seeing clients.
The curriculum is built around real clinical and facilitation scenarios. You’ll get the most from it if you have an active practice where you can apply what you learn in real time.

The Great Psychedelic Myth:

Safety Is Just Avoiding a Bad Trip

Yes, you want your clients to avoid acute stress and re-traumatization. But that’s only the beginning of real care.

Most practitioners think of safety as something they maintain during a session.

They ground their clients, hold space, stay present, and, when something goes sideways, they reach for the same toolkit and hope it’s enough to stabilize someone in full ego-dissolution.

Sometimes it is. Often it’s not. And the difference has nothing to do with how skilled or well-intentioned you are.

It has to do with what was, or wasn’t, happening in your client’s nervous system before the medicine ever took effect.
Safety is the medicine. Without a regulated nervous system and neurobiological readiness, even the most profound insights fade. Without neural scaffolding, ego dissolution can slip into lingering dysregulation.

The session might look fine. Your client might even report a breakthrough. But weeks later, they’re anxious, fragmented, and unable to integrate what actually happened to them.

To truly heal and change, your clients require a professional who can first and foremost facilitate safety, rooted in physiology.

The New Standard for

Safety-First Psychedelic Practice

Based on his 20 years of clinical work and research, Dr. Rabin has invented the Apollo wearable – the only patented technology proven to reduce adverse psychedelic experiences – along with science-backed safety protocols.
Paired with our industry-leading expertise in psychedelic coaching, this training provides:
Direct mentorship from David Rabin, M.D., Ph.D. (who has never offered this kind of personalized mentorship to medical professionals and practitioners)
Practice with the Apollo Neuro™ wearable (in preparation for use with clients)
Assessment and preparation protocols (to adapt to your scope of practice)
Somatic facilitation techniques (everything required to navigate intense journey content, once all clients have been thoroughly screened and prepped)
Crisis navigation blueprint (techniques for emergent difficulties)

This is the first online safety training of this depth, rigor, and actionable knowledge for practitioners.

In this cohort, you will learn directly from Dave and Paul during live sessions (and will likely be the final cohort to receive this level of mentorship).

ONLINE TRAINING

Led by Dave Rabin, M.D., Ph.D.

Dave Rabin, M.D., Ph.D, is a neuroscientist, board-certified psychiatrist, psychedelic researcher, and health tech inventor who has spent over 20 years studying the impact of chronic stress on the human nervous system. As the co-founder and Chief Medical Officer at Apollo Neuroscience, he developed the first scientifically-validated wearable technology that actively improves relaxation and focus using novel touch therapy.

His work focuses on the clinical translation of non-invasive therapies for treatment-resistant conditions. Currently the Executive Director of The Board of Medicine, Dr. Rabin is dedicated to establishing evidence-based clinical guidelines and quality control standards for the safe use of alternative medicines and psychedelic-assisted therapies.

Hear From the Practitioners
Already Enrolled

I have experienced journeys that went wrong! And I do a lot of therapy and prep and integration with people, but preparing the nervous system is the piece I am missing. I aim to learn how to prepare and create a calm nervous system for a journey.

I have very significant concerns about safety and above all – doing no harm. I hope to vastly increase my skills and knowledge so as to protect my clients the very best I can from harmful outcomes.
I have a primary identity of educator and wish to intentionally support the appropriate usage of psychedelics in society. I plan to not only work with clients directly but to speak to sectors of persons who may be inexperienced about psychedelic use. I need to be able to demonstrate awareness.
[Inspired by] the deep quality of experience witnessed and felt from Paul’s Huachuma Micro Coaching Cert. Dr. Rabin’s session during that training was one of the most powerful presentations. Dr. Rabin is saying things that are not often heard in the world of addressing nervous system issues… it is leading edge and so, so needed by those of us with nervous systems we barely have under control despite all our well developed tool box and wisdom.
A cornerstone of my therapy practice has been nervous system regulation. In my personal life, I use Apollo and other tech to help. I’ve had some less than ideal experiences and want to do what I can to make sure my clients have the best outcomes possible.
Many of my current clients use psychedelics for healing/ personal use and I would like to be better equipped to help them with safe preparation and fruitful integration. I also have personal interest and experience with my own healing. I like Dave Rabin’s humanistic and grounded approach to this material.
I am always interested in providing safe experiences for the clients I see and am drawn to learn more about preparation.

I’m looking for mentors who can train from a neuroscience perspective. My training thus far has been from therapists and legacy facilitators. I plan to incorporate my learnings directly into my facilitator protocols as well as use them in educating the community.

I’m about to start offering this kind of work with my clients but would feel more comfortable with more knowledge around safety. More tools to be more effective in the full process. Apply it by being more prepared with intakes, journey facilitations and integrations.

Always looking for ways to improve my practice. Neuroscience/ Nervous System Regulation geek, trying to learn more about somatics. I own/use Apollo Neuro and interested in integrating it into journey facilitation.

Timing was perfect as I haven’t been holding space and suddenly have the opportunity again, and some of what slowed me down was just discomfort with my level of experience and content of prior trainings. The emphasis on peri-journey work feels very right to me and I appreciate learning from folks who have a similar mindset and more experience. Will be working in the near future with a group of vets.

I’ve had much experience of my own with psychedelic journeying in all different kinds of set and settings, so my personal experiences are vast, however I want to feel super confident with regards to safety when holding space for others.

12 Weeks to Professional Certainty

The Curriculum Overview: This comprehensive training is designed to transform your understanding of the psychedelic experience from a “trip to be managed” into a “physiological process to be supported.”

Over nine modules, we bridge the gap between clinical psychiatry and somatic practice, providing you with field-tested ways to navigate the most complex states of human consciousness.

Week 1
Module 1: The Science of Safety: Set, Setting, and the Nervous System
Master the foundations of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) to understand how “threat mode” prevents healing. Learn how to create the neural scaffolding your clients need to feel safe enough for transformation.

Week 2
Module 2: The Neurobiology of Psychedelics and Safety
Explore how medicines interact with 5-HT2A receptors and the Default Mode Network (DMN) to facilitate ego dissolution. Distinguish between healthy psychological opening and dangerous physiological dysregulation.

Week 3
Module 3: Breath, Body, and Technology as Tools for Safety
Integrate the Apollo Neuro™ as a real-time regulation tool to provide “wearable breath” for your clients. Build a comprehensive somatic toolkit that uses touch, frequency, and vibration to anchor the nervous system.

Week 4
Module 4: Ethics, Law, and Scope of Practice

Navigate the complex legal landscape and ethical responsibilities of the modern practitioner. Define clear boundaries between sitting, coaching, and clinical therapy. Implement informed consent and trauma-informed care principles.

Week 5
Module 5: Preparation: Building Resilience Before the Journey

Learn to identify physiological and mental health “red flags” using a clinical-grade screening process. Establish the lifestyle adjustments and intentional readiness required for a safe and effective journey.

Week 6
Module 6: Guiding the Journey: The Art of Presence

Learn how to co-regulate with clients to provide stability during the peak of their experiences. Learn trauma-sensitive language and non-invasive interventions to resolve fear responses without interrupting the healing process.

Week 7
Module 7: Integration: Translating Insight into Daily Life

Maximize the “48-hour neuroplastic window” following a journey to translate insights into lasting behavioral change. Use specific somatic exercises and tech-assisted grounding to ensure insights become habits.

Week 8
Module 8: Navigating Challenges: Panic, Fear, and Dissolution

Develop the skills to manage acute anxiety, panic, and overwhelm with calm, clinical precision. Practice high-stakes scenarios to ensure you are never caught off guard by a client’s physiological reaction.

Week 9 to 12
Module 9: Advanced Case Studies and Multimodal Integration
Role-play real-world psychedelic scenarios, using the Apollo wearable, breath, and multimodal interventions for even the most complex cases. Synthesize everything you’ve learned into a customized, evidence-based Safety & Integration Protocol. Present your framework for peer review and receive final certification from Dr. Rabin and Paul F. Austin.

Live classes run once per week (Tuesdays, 9:00–11:00 AM PT) for approximately two hours each.

ABOUT US

ABOUT US

Why Learn From the Psychedelic Coaching Institute?

Now the gold standard in professional psychedelic training, we have taught hundreds of practitioners the skill of psychedelics since 2021.

Founder Paul F. Austin recognized a critical gap: more and more well-meaning people were interested in becoming practitioners, but few had the education, hands-on training, ethical clarity, and marketability to become credible and make a positive impact.

The Psychedelic Coaching Institute came into existence to close this gap by training the next generation of psychedelic leaders. We grew from our sister company, Third Wave, which has been a trusted resource for psychedelic education for over a decade.

Today, we blend science, spirit, and skill to give our practitioners a comprehensive toolkit for preparation, facilitation, and integration. Rooted in a nervous system-first approach and equipped with entrepreneurial gusto, our practitioners are defining the future of this “third wave” of psychedelics. By joining this program, you aren’t just taking a course; you are joining the movement’s vanguard.

The Cost of Inaction: The psychedelic field is moving fast. As it moves toward the mainstream, the standard for “due diligence” is rising. The average malpractice claim in a therapeutic setting can cost $50,000–$100,000 in legal fees alone – and that’s before you account for the irreparable damage to your professional reputation.

This training costs less than a single adverse incident.

Program FAQs

Live classes run once per week (Tuesdays, 9:00–11:00 AM PT) for approximately two hours each. Recordings are available, but this certification does require 12 hours of training participation, completion of all quizzes, and submission of your Capstone Project.

The Apollo Neuro™ is offered as a discounted add-on at enrollment (not included in the base tuition). Because hands-on practice with the device is central to the curriculum, we strongly recommend securing one before the program begins.

CE/CME accreditation is currently in progress and is a high priority. We will communicate specific credit details to enrolled participants as soon as approval is confirmed. If CE eligibility is an important factor in your decision, reach out to our team for the latest status.

This certification is for practitioners, coaches, clinicians, and medical professionals who are actively working with clients in a health or wellness capacity. No prior psychedelic training or experience is required — this program provides the safety science, protocols, and tools you need to work confidently in this space. If you’re looking to begin a career in psychedelics, we recommend starting with our Microdosing Practitioner Certification.

If you’re looking to begin a career in psychedelics, we recommend starting with our Microdosing Practitioner Certification

This is the first professional training to combine Dr. Rabin’s clinical safety protocols, patented Apollo Neuro™ technology, and hands-on mentorship with Paul’s psychedelic expertise.

You will not just learn theory. Over the course of 3 months, you will get everything you need to reconfigure and protect your practice for the long-run, with physiological safety as the foundation.

As a member of this cohort, you’ll also receive a level of direct access to Dave and Paul that future cohorts are unlikely to have.

The Psychedelic Safety and Harm Reduction Certification is an elective, designed by Paul to complement our other programs. Both the Microdosing Practitioner Certification and the Practitioner Certification Program touch on safety, but neither dives into it with this level of depth, clinical rigor, and direct mentorship from Dr. Dave Rabin.

If you’re a certified practitioner aiming to operate at the highest level of safety available, and prevent catastrophic outcomes, our new training is your next step.
