From SSRIs to Psychedelics: What Happens In Between

1 in 8 American adults is on an antidepressant. Many of them are the people now asking you about psychedelics.
Join Dave Rabin, M.D., Ph.D., and Paul F. Austin for the clinical protocol that safely supports a client in transitioning from one to the other.

Our field taught you how to start psychedelic therapy. Nobody taught you how to stop conventional psychiatric medication
There’s a decade of training out there on how to begin psychedelic work with a client. There’s almost none on how to get that client off the medication they’re already taking. Which is strange, because it’s the first thing a medicated client asks. And most of us answer it with a referral.
Dr. Dave Rabin has been running this protocol in his clinical practice for years. The interaction, the screening, the taper, the ketamine bridge, and the criteria that decide when psychedelic work can safely start.
On August 12th, he’s teaching you the fundamentals of all of it.
Why This Is Important Now
In April, the FDA issued its first National Priority Vouchers, compressing review to one to two months after filing. Compass Pathways is completing a rolling submission for psilocybin. Definium’s LSD program is in Phase 3 with Breakthrough designation.
Nobody knows the approval dates with certainty. But we do know, that once psychedelics are approved by the FDA, there will be massive demand. It won’t, however, immediately arrive as demand for psychedelics in a clinic. Instead, it will arrive as millions of people on antidepressants asking their practitioner how to get from where they are to where the headlines are pointing.
Every one of those conversations starts with a taper. And very few people in this field can safely and effectively run one.

What You'll Learn:

Why classic psychedelics and SSRIs can’t be combined, including the receptor discovery most trainings still don’t cover
How to tell withdrawal from relapse, and why getting it wrong is what sends clients back on
What a real taper looks like, and how to co-manage it with the prescriber
Where ketamine fits, and how transition work can start before your client is medication-free
What has to be true before a client is ready, including the research finding that complicates the simple version
Exactly where your scope ends, whether you prescribe, hold a license, or coach

From SSRIs to Psychedelic Medicine: A Clinical Primer for Practitioners
Developed in collaboration with Dr. Dave Rabin, M.D., Ph.D., this guide equips practitioners to navigate interaction risks, the four-phase transition sequence, and the withdrawal-versus-relapse differential. It features a printable readiness checklist to help you evaluate client suitability and collaborate effectively with prescribers.

Perfect For:

This Training Is For:

Prescribers (MD, DO, NP, PA)
You already hold the authority to taper. What you’ll gain is the sequencing: how the taper connects to what follows, where ketamine speeds it up, and what readiness actually requires
Licensed clinicians and therapists
You’ll learn to assess, to monitor, to run the withdrawal-versus-relapse differential, and to co-manage with your client’s prescriber, all inside your scope.
Psychedelic facilitators and guides
Your clients arrive medicated. This gives you a clinical answer instead of an improvised one, and a clear line for when to hand off
Coaches
You will learn what you can legitimately support, where your scope ends, and how to be useful in a process you don’t direct
Most practitioners
You work with medicated clients, refer them out, or watch them drift away. This competency lets you keep them

ABOUT US

Why Learn From the Psychedelic Coaching Institute?

Now the gold standard in professional psychedelic training, we have taught hundreds of practitioners to master the skill of psychedelics since 2021.

Founder Paul F. Austin recognized a critical gap: more and more well-meaning people were interested in becoming practitioners, but few had the education, hands-on training, ethical clarity, and marketability to become credible and make a positive impact.

The Psychedelic Coaching Institute came into existence to close this gap by training the next generation of psychedelic leaders. We grew from our sister company, Third Wave, which has been a trusted resource for psychedelic education for 10+ years.

Today, we blend science, spirit, and skill to give our certified practitioners a comprehensive toolkit for preparation, facilitation, and integration. Paul’s expertise in intentional microdosing, in particular, guides many of our core methodologies.

We offer two flagship programs:
Rooted in a nervous system-first approach and equipped with entrepreneurial gusto, Psychedelic Coaching Institute practitioners are defining the future of this third wave of psychedelics.
